Relax, Restore, Refresh

by Christopher Lovejoy on March 3, 2022

I find myself in wonder: might these watchwords ~ relax, restore, refresh ~ serve me well any time I feel the hunger for a change of scene, or a change of pace, to pivot my story in a different, and perhaps more desirable, direction? If so, how might they play out for me in real time?

I’ve explored more than a few pivots in my lifetime.

Here are a few of my absolute favorites . . .

relax
I hereby give myself permission to engage the fine art of doing nothing, beautifully, so as to dwell at the heart of being no one in particular, naturally ~ I hereby recall the last time I walked barefoot along the shore of a beach, even as I remember when life itself was a beach

restore
I hereby give myself permission to engage the fine art of silence, so as to be whoever I need to be to conjure that one sacred, silent space that I’ve come to know and love so well ~ to be there, to pause, to be still, to listen to the voice of silence ~ empty, yet so full of answers

refresh
I hereby give myself permission to engage the fine art of divine nonchalance, beautifully, meaningfully, so as to allow the first divinely inspired impulse to pique my interest and inform me of who to be next, and then to follow it freely, freshly, and faithfully, if not blissfully . . .

I relax, restore, refresh ~ beautifully, meaningfully, freely, freshly, and faithfully, if not blissfully ~ and then I rinse, repeat, and recall: at no time in my day need there be an idle moment.

I trust that the whole of me is ready, willing, and able to give me the time and space I need and want when I need and want it, without ever assuming that the whole of me can read my mind, and so, I do well to keep telling it what I need and want, as and when I need and want it
