Cosmic Field of Play: 2

by Christopher Lovejoy on January 22, 2017

Am I . . . free . . . to be clear to explore
what I really desire, as I follow my bliss
with equanimity, in harmony with unity?

Am I . . . free . . . to be pure to cultivate
intimate contact with desire, as I express
love in exuberance, in harmony with unity?

In my most recent post, I revisited the exotic notion of a cosmic field of play. In this post, I will continue to set myself up to more thoroughly observe and explore the implications and ramifications of living and learning inside what I call the Gray Zone on the cosmic field of play.

To get the most out of this post, I advise a fluid understanding of the following terms and conditions – an understanding that is free of attachment to connotations commonly associated with them: pretense and pretentious; ego, egocentric, egocentricity; abandonment and entitlement.

1

Pretense is light, gray, or dark, depending on the intending behind the pretending.

For example, I can be lightly pretentious (to play a role in learning to grow to evolve to ascend); I can be grayly pretentious (to dispatch a task without hurting or harming anyone in the process); or I can be darkly pretentious (to protect someone I like or love from hurt or harm).

It could also be argued that pretense is best construed as conscious play – sometimes playful, sometimes serious (but not too serious) – if only to stay nimble enough in dealing with those who use pretense more often than not to get their way – or to have their way with you.

The cosmic field of play is a field of pretense that extends throughout Creation, in all dimensions of existence, whereby any pretentious act (light, gray, or dark) carries a risk of exposure in the light of presence, which is a uniform field that underlies the cosmic field of play.

If it were not for pretense, presence would have no meaning, purpose, or direction. If it were not for pretense, nothing of significance could be learned by anyone anywhere at anytime, even by those who deign to descend from the very heights of power to be of service.

Polarizing towards being of service to others would not be possible without the influence of pretense. If it were not for pretense, innocence would prevail and such polarization would be impossible.

2

The conscious ego is a master regulator of life, love, and lust. A functional, fully functioning ego is central to having the choice to be wholly present, to be consciously pretentious, or to remain oblivious to both. The ego contains the master switch – “let it be” or “make it so”.

For all of these reasons, the mature or maturing ego is best construed, not as negative, not as destructive, in and of itself, but as a masterful servant of Self playing a vital role in finding resonance with sanctity and divinity, while bridging any gaps between human and divine.

In finding resonance with the sacred and divine dimensions of life and love (and lust), the ego is realizing resonance with its soul and spirit, respectively, serving as mediator between soul and spirit, finding its proper place between soul and spirit for the sake of all three.

In denying the energy of soul, the ego is at risk of becoming an usurper of spirit.

In denying the energy of spirit, the ego is at risk of becoming a slave to the soul.

3

In my study of the cosmic field of play, the terms abandonment and entitlement are by far the most interesting of all, as they are incredibly rich with meaning, if I so choose to treat them as such.

Ascension, balance, fulfillment: these are the words to keep foremost in mind when exploring and extracting the wealth of meaning to be found in these (all too little understood and appreciated) terms: abandon and entitle, abandoned and entitled, abandonment and entitlement.

If I am to derive full benefit from these terms, I would do well to find their intersection with a field of pretense. Where the field of pretense is a vertical continuum of light and gray and dark, the polarity of abandonment and entitlement is a horizional axis that moves up and down the field of pretense, creating what I call a cosmic field of play. In placing the Self on this field, the ego is at liberty to play with soul and spirit.

This last point is key: in “letting it be”, the ego abandons itself to the power of soul, surrenders itself to the promise of soul, to the sanctity of soul; in “making it so”, the ego entitles itself to the power of spirit, empowers itself to the possibilities of spirit, to the divinity of spirit.

Again, …

In finding resonance with the sacred and divine dimensions of life and love (and lust), the ego is realizing resonance with its soul and spirit, respectively, serving as mediator between soul and spirit, finding its proper place between soul and spirit for the sake of all three.

In denying the energy of soul, in sacrificing “let it be” to “make it so”, the ego is at risk of becoming an usurper of spirit, utilizing all manner of pretense to identify wholly with spirit at the expense of soul, falling downward into an attitude of predatory cunning in service to itself.

Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyways, this is where the ego gets a bad name.

On the other hand, in denying the energy of spirit, in sacrificing “make it so” to “let it be”, the ego is at risk of becoming a slave to soul, either in being more or less surrendered to light pretense, more or less abandoned to gray pretense, or more or less resigned to dark pretense.

With this clarity of mind, let us continue to find ourselves on the cosmic field of play.

The Emotional Mainstay of Human Motivation: Fear … or Love?

In keeping with ancient wisdom, we would all do well to check in with ourselves on occasion, and ask: “in this moment, am I being motivated by fear … or by love? Am I closed to the promise of life or am I open to the possibilities of life? Am I pulling back or am I moving forward?”

Resisting or allowing? Restricting or permitting? Contracting or expanding? Of course, there is room for both in any forward, onward, upward movement in life, but which of these predominate in your life?

Yes, the basic energy of fear has a vital role to play in alerting us to doubt or danger, but then, the basic energy of love also has a vital role to play in alerting the ego to the promise and possibilities of soul and spirit, respectively. We would do well to find our balance with both.

In viewing and contemplating this depiction of the cosmic field of play, where do you surmise you spend much if not most of your time? Do you find yourself in the love zone much of the time, grappling mostly with light and gray pretense, or … do you find yourself in the zone of fear more often than you would like to admit, grappling with the concealments of gray and dark pretense, either in yourself or with others?

In this depiction of the two main zones of influence on the field of pretense, the use of the term predominates is precise, not only because it implies the power to influence behavior and conduct in one direction or another, but because fear and love are complementary energies: even as fear can organize with gray or dark pretense, love can harmonize with light or gray pretense. The more love I have in my motivation, the lighter my inclinations towards pretense; the more fear I have in my motivation, the darker my inclinations towards pretense.

The Light, Gray, and Dark Zones: A Refinement to the Cosmic Field of Play

A field of pretense characterizes the cosmic field of play (vertically). Around the border between the zones where fear and love predominate, lies a gray zone of ambiguity and ambivalence where fearing tends, more or less, to get conflated with loving, and vice versa.

With enough consciousness, with sufficient awareness and acceptance, the two main zones of influence (love and fear) can be resolved into three zones, into what I call the light zone, the gray zone, and the dark zone. In linking the predominance of love as the basic motivating power in the light zone and in linking the predominance of fear with the basic motivating power in the dark zone, a confused or conflated blend of love and fear can more easily be seen to be associated with the gray zone. With enough discernment, however, every encounter, experience, and event in the course of living a life can be an opportunity to choose either love or fear as the more influential motive power in the Gray Zone.

When choosing to be motivated by fear inside the Gray Zone, we drop towards the Dark Zone and when choosing to be motivated by love inside the Gray Zone, we rise towards the Light Zone.

Merely by having the awareness that one can choose to embrace the power of love in service to the light or to be driven by the power of fear in service to the dark can often be enough to begin moving in one direction or the other, but what is actually going on in the Gray Zone?

To better appreciate a response to this question, let us resolve the field of pretense even further.

Coming to Terms with Five Webs of Influence on the Cosmic Field of Play

Coming to terms with the five webs of influence on the cosmic field of play is synonymous, in my view, with coming to terms with fate. Indeed, these webs of influence could be construed as webs of fate. In contemplating these webs, which of these do you presently find yourself?

Each of these webs contains its own challenges, as well as its own compensations, or, if you prefer, each of these webs contains its own rewards, as well as its challenges. Collectively, I view these webs as a kind of working hypothesis, one that I conceived intuitively to better understand and appreciate the many shades of pretense that characterize our most significant relationships in daily life.

Each of these webs also have their own prime risk factors. For example, someone caught in a web of exploitation is at risk of dissolution; someone caught in a web of manipulation is at risk of aggression; someone caught in a web of obligation is at risk of compulsion; someone caught in a web of exploration is at risk of distraction; and someone caught in a web of realization is at risk of stagnation. These prime risks are ever present, more or less, depending on how deeply enmeshed we are inside our respective webs of influence.

Where the web of realization occupies the light zone, the web of exploration straddles the light zone and the gray zone, and where the web of obligation occupies the gray zone, the web of manipulation straddles the gray zone and the dark zone. Someone caught in a web of exploitation is in the dark zone, motivated mostly by fear and at risk of dissolution either on the side of abandonment (“I no longer care about my life”) or on the side of entitlement (“I no longer care about anyone in my life”), either of which are potentially lethal or fatal to the one caught in this web.

Another interesting feature of this depiction of the webs of fate is that the potential always exists for someone to either ascend towards a web of realization (and beyond) or to descend into a web of exploitation, which is not to say that I view these five webs as mutually exclusive. That is, someone caught inside a web of exploration, where exploration is at risk of distraction, might still be subject to acts of obligation, committing isolated acts of manipulation and/or performing aberrational acts of exploitation. With enough awareness of these webs, however, those caught inside webs of exploration plagued by distraction, for example, could make it part of their journey and destiny to weave webs of realization by deepening their sense of what really and truly matters to them, of what really and truly is loved and desired for themselves.

If any of this feels daunting or depressing, please take heart; there is a way to move up and through these webs with relative ease without getting forever caught inside their fateful influences.

The Premise of Absolute Perfection

Before I share with you what I call “the premise of absolute perfection” as a basis for liquefying fate in service to a desired destiny, allow me to draw your attention to the following quadrant analysis, which I performed to clarify my sense of play on the cosmic field of play.

We all have our needs and we all have our desires, and if we are smart about it, we will keep them separate and distinct, prioritizing needs over desires so as to better serve and support our desires, but as we know, life is never ever as simple and easy and direct as this. We do have our desires, yes; indeed, we cannot help but entertain our desires, at the very least, even in spite of needs yet to be met. Our unique sense of destiny as seen and known and felt through our desires sometimes cannot wait for all of our needs to be met, and so we attempt to leapfrog over our needs in service to our desires, and when we hit a brick wall, we call this fate: “I was fated to hit this brick wall,” when in reality, all we had to do was meet a need before taking the leap. In the light of all of this annoying common sense, it would do us well to know that our needs lie within the purview of soul, even as our desires lie within the domain of spirit. In viewing this quadrant analysis, recall what I said about the left side of the cosmic field of play being the purview of soul and the right side of this field being the domain of spirit, and then ask yourself: do I have any pressing needs that now require the attention of my soul? Any desires that compel the attention of my spirit?

In viewing these quadrants, take note of your impressions of each, as they apply to you, and while you do so, imagine living in the best of all possible worlds. Give yourself ample credit for doing the very best you could with the cards you’ve been dealt before you incarnated into this life with all of the baggage that you carried from previous lives, while reminding yourself, “I know at some level that I am perfect in every way, and that the imperfections that surface in my life give meaning to my life, drawing me forth from the depths to realize myself more fully. The world I have created up to now is absolutely perfect in every way, the best of all possible worlds that serve up apparent imperfections to be perfectly realized for my continued realization as a soul and to be perfectly fulfilled for my continued evolution as a spirit.”

And then, when you feel ready …

“I hereby embrace the premise of absolute perfection: my world, as I choose to conceive it in a much larger world, is the best of all possible worlds for me, and how I continue to interpret it, going forward, from now until the day I pass beyond this world, is wholly up to me and comes fully down to me.”

The Expansive, Expressive Ego: Moving From Personal to Transpersonal Fulfillment

We have one more piece of the puzzle to place before we can enter the fog of war that is the Gray Zone.

In this post, I began preparing the ground to enter the Gray Zone, choosing my perspective and going into more detail about the nature of abandonment and entitlement as they apply to egocentricity, and in the post that followed, I went more in depth with the nature of presence and pretense. Writing these posts helped me to move away from treating fulfillment as exclusively personal.

As far as I can see, realizing the maturity of an expansive, expressive ego is the final step in gaining a complete mastery of Self on the cosmic field of play. In moving the ego down from the Love Zone into the middle of the cosmic field of play, attention is shifted from personal fulfillment to transpersonal fulfillment, to gain and keep complete observational and exploratory access to all points on the field. Where the placement of green arrows in this graphic symbolize full observational access to the field of pretense, the blue arrows symbolize full exploratory access. Imagine, too, that these arrows are rotating smoothly and continuously around the Self, represented as a solar object at the center of the field.

Gaining and keeping a transcendent perspective above the center of this field of play is not enough to gain and keep complete observational and exploratory access to all points on the cosmic field of play, although it does afford, on occasion, a necessary point of view for dealing with especially difficult situations. I would only recommend this shift from a personal perspective (at the center of the Love Zone) to a transpersonal perspective (fully immersed at the centre of the Gray Zone) for those who feel ready to (a) embrace the premise of absolute perfection, and (b) have ready access to every point on the field.

With this preliminary overview of the entire cosmic field of play, we have begun the task of assuming the status of cosmic sovereigns, setting ourselves up to claim the freedom to explore and express fully what is truly required and really desired in keeping with the unity of harmony.

Addendum:

The Era of Golden Consciousness has officially begun: as the consciousness of presence continues to surge, the field of pretense continues to enlighten us as a whole, even as the Gray Zone continues to shift, split, and morph into a new and fresh and bright beginning for us all.
