Ultimate Fulfillment 33

by Christopher Lovejoy on November 23, 2014

Here’s a question I pondered recently: where (on earth) do we begin the process of coming to terms with fate (in general) and with our own fates (in particular)?

When I say “fate”, I do not mean “destiny”. Viewed from a neutral standpoint, fate is fixed, either before we are born or after we adopt a fixed belief, presuming to know what is best. Viewed negatively, fate is a bitch, over which we have no control whatsoever. Viewed positively, fate is consequential, moving us either in positive directions or not so positive ones. Destinies, on the other hand, are (presumably) courses of action shaped by choice that span entire lifetimes, although there is always a lingering doubt as to whether destiny might not have a good deal of fate involved in its creation.

Let us ask ourselves: would I want to have my health, happiness, and harmony handed to me on a silver platter? It does appear that some of us have had this happen, but then, what would the consequences of having this happen be? Might we not get spoiled by the contents of this platter? Might it not prevent us from awakening to ourselves and deciding what we wish to do with our lives? Some very interesting clinical research has indicated that we preview our lives before incarnating on this planet, suggesting that we are fated, at least to some extent, but what if … what if we dropped the script and decided to go our own way? What would the consequences be of presuming to know what is best for me?

In any approach to the realization of the ultimate in personal fulfillment, it would seem that a cosmic participation in this universe provides four facets of involvement (with fate) and engagement (with destiny): a cosmic true self living a cosmic life and lifestyle with a cosmic worldview on a cosmic field of play. I’m now in the process of articulating, organizing, and integrating these interweaving facets; this is where I’m headed and this resource page is where I’ve started to make some headway.
